NHSA Celebrates Earth Day with Community Events Highlighting Flood Resilience and Green Infrastructure
The North Hudson Sewerage Authority (NHSA) invites residents, families, and visitors to join two special Earth Day events on Sunday, April 26, 2026 focused on sustainability, flood resilience, and community engagement in Hoboken and the surrounding communities we serve.
NHSA provides wastewater treatment services for Hoboken, Weehawken, West New York, and Union City, safely treating wastewater and returning clean, treated water to the Hudson River. Through these Earth Day events, NHSA aims to connect the public with the infrastructure and programs that protect local waterways and reduce flooding in our region.
Hoboken Earth Day Celebration & Music Festival
NHSA is proud to serve as a local sponsor of the Hoboken Earth Day Celebration & Music Festival, taking place from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Monroe Center Plaza. The festival will feature live music, local environmental organizations, and family-friendly activities celebrating sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Festival attendees are encouraged to visit the NHSA information table to learn more about the Authority’s work to improve wastewater treatment, reduce flooding, and protect the Hudson River. NHSA staff will also share information about the Long‑Term Control Program (LTCP)—a federally required initiative designed to reduce combined sewer overflows during heavy rain and protect public health and the environment.
Educational materials and free giveaways will be available, including tote bags, stickers, activity books, and fact sheets for visitors of all ages.
Guided Native Plant Walk at ResilienCity Park
Following the festival, NHSA will host a guided Native Plant Walk from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at ResilienCity Park. Led by environmental expert Cam Kanterman, the walk will highlight how native plants and green infrastructure help manage stormwater, reduce runoff, and support flood mitigation efforts tied to NHSA’s Long‑Term Control Program.
Participants will experience ResilienCity Park firsthand while learning how green infrastructure solutions—such as rain gardens, permeable surfaces, and native landscaping—play a critical role in strengthening climate resilience in urban communities. The walk is open to all ages, with no prior experience required.

Both events are free and open to the public, with no registration required.
Through these Earth Day celebrations, NHSA continues its commitment to public education and outreach—helping residents better understand how wastewater treatment, flood control infrastructure, and natural systems work together to protect the Hudson River and build a healthier, more resilient North Hudson region.
