Different Missions, One River: Our Environmental Friends Tour NHSA

On Wednesday, October 7, the North Hudson Sewerage Authority invited some of our environmental friends for a tour of our treatment plant to show them how it works and all the work we’re doing to protect the Hudson River. Our guests were Ron Hine, Founder and Executive Director of the Fund for a Better Waterfront; Noelle Thurlow, Founder and Director of Resilience Adventures; and Yasmin Coto, Project Manager and Director for Pier 12 at the Shipyard Marina. A special thank you to Ron and FBW for pulling this group together.

Our team walked the group through each stage of treatment, following wastewater from Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken and West New York until it is clean enough to return to the river. We also shared the Long-Term Control Plan projects that are reducing combined sewer overflows and keeping the waterfront cleaner.

Each of our guests serves the river in its own way. FBW has championed a continuous public waterfront park since 1990. Resilience Adventures puts people on the Hudson in kayaks and paddleboards and teaches them to care for the estuary. The Shipyard Marina welcomes boaters, sailors and paddlers to Hoboken’s uptown waterfront. Our organizations are all different, but one thing we all have in common is a love for the Hudson River.
