On Monday, October 26, the North Hudson Sewerage Authority welcomed residents to the Adams Street Wastewater Treatment Plant for a public meeting on its Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long-Term Control Plan.
NHSA serves Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken and West New York. Much of our service area relies on a combined sewer system, where rainwater and wastewater share the same pipes. During heavy storms, that system can overflow into the Hudson River. The Long-Term Control Plan is our roadmap for reducing those overflows. NHSA was the first authority to complete this plan and have it approved by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).
Omar Vicioso, NHSA's LTCP Public Outreach Coordinator, opened the evening by welcoming attendees and explaining why the plan matters to the residents we serve. Interim Executive Director Brian Kappock then addressed the audience, and Authority Engineer Don Conger walked attendees through the plan: the projects that are complete, the work underway, what comes next and how it is being funded. Residents then brought their questions to our engineering team. To close the night, attendees took a guided tour of the plant to see this infrastructure up close.
Thank you to everyone who attended, including the members of our Community Advisory Board, our Board of Commissioners and our partners at NJDEP. Your participation helps keep this work transparent and community-focused.
"Public meetings like this one are how we make sure the plan reflects the people it serves," said Omar Vicioso, LTCP Public Outreach Coordinator. "Your questions and ideas shape our work."
