NHSA Welcomes High Tech High School Environmental Science Students for Educational Facility Tour
The North Hudson Sewerage Authority welcomed Environmental Science students from High Tech High School for an educational tour of the Adams Street Wastewater Treatment Plant.
During the visit, students learned about the essential work NHSA performs to protect public health and the environment—from collecting and treating wastewater to maintaining critical infrastructure across the region. NHSA staff walked students through each stage of the treatment process, explaining how technology, engineering, and around‑the‑clock operations ensure that water returned to the environment is safe and compliant with all regulations.
In addition to learning how the treatment process works, students gained insight into why this work is so important. Staff discussed how wastewater management supports clean waterways, reduces pollution, and strengthens the resilience of our communities, especially in an era of aging infrastructure and increasing environmental challenges.
Several NHSA team members also shared their personal career paths, describing how they entered the water and wastewater field and the opportunities available in engineering, operations, laboratory science, and environmental protection. They encouraged students to consider careers in the water sector—an industry that offers meaningful work, long‑term stability, and the chance to directly contribute to public health and environmental sustainability.
NHSA values educational outreach and is committed to helping students understand the real‑world impact of environmental science. The Authority appreciates the curiosity and engagement shown by the students and looks forward to welcoming more school groups for future learning experiences.
